J.Carroll Shenanigans - Abby vs. Bread
Recently J.Carroll hired a young, yet very talented, designer - Tamara. We are super happy to have her here on our Design Team! :-)
Tamara happens to be vegan, and she always brings in these amazing baked goods that she makes to share with us. (they are REALLY good)(and cookies make the guys in screenprinting VERY happy) .
Today was no exception - she brought in a loaf of cinnamon bread that had everyone stuffing their face with glee.
We keep our 'shared goodies' on the table in the kitchen/break room so folks can graze at their own will.
Well... it just so happens that Abby, the Official Mascot of J.Carroll, is here today as well. Abby is a sweet-natured golden retriever who's human (Josh) happens to own the place.
And boy, does Abby LOVE bread.
Tamara headed into the kitchen for some water, and found Abby in the act of just jumping off of the table - WITH THE REST OF THE BREAD IN HER MOUTH.
Abby really, really, really liked the bread.
So much that she didn't want to let go of it. Leif was there and got a chance to document the silliness that ensued.
Anyone want some Doggy Slobber Cinnamon Bread?
DTG Friday - I LOVE TRUCKS!
First of all, we're sorry that we missed last week's DTG Friday. Things here in the art department have been busy to say the least, and we're up to our eyeballs in design work. There has been some really cool stuff coming through here lately, and we'll be adding in a gallery of art to our website soon!
This week's DTG Friday features a cartooned big rig tow truck. It's an illustration that I did a few years back, and has been one of the most popular designs I've ever posted on my own website and Flickr feed. Who'd have known that big rig tow trucks had such a following? Maybe it was my love for big trucks that came through in the art - when I was a little girl there were no Barbies and dolls in my room, only die cast cars and trucks, Star Wars figurines, stuffed animals, and Army men. A shirt like this would have been one of my favorites for sure.
Here's the original sketch of this hauler:
I originally created this 'I LOVE TRUCKS' design for my young nephew, who definitely LOVES trucks (his 3rd birthday had a trash truck piñata - not kidding) and according to his Mom he wanted to wear it every day for a week after receiving it. He's grown out of it and is due for a new one.
I'm sure you know a child that loves trucks as much as I did, and this is the perfect gift for them. It's printed on a 100% cotton t-shirt and is available in sizes 2T through kids XL (14/16) - click here to order!
As usual, we ship anywhere, so if you want to send this as a gift to a far away grandchild or loved one, we can accomodate that for you. Just be sure to note that when placing your order.
Thanks for looking, and we'll see you next week!

DTG Friday - Gone Surfing!
This week's DTG Friday design was inspired by the longer days and milder weather of summer. Yes yes, we know that the Central Coast can suffer from some serious bouts of June Gloom, but even if it's a bit foggy along the coast, you'll always see surfers out in the water. From Pismo Beach all the way up to the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse and beyond, this area is home to some pretty epic surf spots.
Just don't forget your wetsuit, because the water doesn't get much over 55 chilly degrees.
We felt that the best shirt for a retro design like this was the Alternative "destroyed" t-shirt. I can't believe how super soft this shirt is - it is EXACTLY like my very own 'favorite' shirt that I refuse to throw away. It's just frayed enough to look like a vintage shirt you just bought at the thrift shop or found hiding in your parents' attic.
Pismo Beach has been a popular surf spot since the birth of the sport, and it also hosts a huge car-show every year (along with it's own weekly Donut Derelicts). So what's a cooler combo than a cherry '57 Chevy Nomad wagon with longboards on it? I think they go together like bacon and chocolate.
We printed the design on an apple green and a vintage white shirt. Both are available in sizes small through 2X. To order yours, click here.
Maybe you know someone who's visited Pismo Beach, and longs to return? This would make an excellent gift. Know a car guy that surfs? Perfect gift! Know someone who hoards anything with a '57 Chevy Nomad wagon on it? Necessary gift!
Order now and try out this super soft Pismo Beach t-shirt for yourself. Or admire it's softness before you gift wrap it and send it on it's way!
Thanks for stopping by, see you next week!

Introducing DTG Fridays at J.Carroll
DTG Friday is one part silly art department, one part equally silly front office staff, and one part 'why the heck not?'
Every Friday we'll be printing something that strikes our fancy onto shirts or apparel using our DTG Printer, and for a limited time, the shirts will be available for sale.
Of course now you ask, what is "DTG"? DTG is the Direct To Garment method of printing on apparel.
It's basically a gigantic version of your little desktop ink jet printer, but instead of printing on paper, we're printing on t-shirts! Direct to Garment is great for doing small runs of full color prints, as there is less setup time and cost involved than regular screen printing.
Let's say you have some artwork that you kept from your child's kindergarten years, and want to give them a unique present for their high school graduation. We can scan that artwork and print it on a shirt, tank top, hoodie, or even a tote bag. As long as the fabric is 90-100% cotton, and light in color (the printer does not print white ink), it will come out just like the artwork!
This week's DTG Friday 'design' started with our graphics department's love of Grumpy Cat and a mild obsession with the octopus. The Grumpy Kraken was created by one of our designer's husbands, who opened the email containing the image and immediately said (ok, shouted) 'THIS NEEDS TO GO ON A T-SHIRT!'. A few were made, and in the process, DTG Fridays were born.
The Grumpy Kraken is printed on a Gildan 6.1oz Ultra Cotton T-Shirt. Click here to purchase your very own Grumpy Kraken!

What's that? New Presses?
J.Carroll would like to wish you a happy and prosperous 2013!
Things here have been crazy, but in a good way. We've just finished installing two, brand-new M&R Screenprinting Presses, and they look fantastic in our recently remodeled shop!
Along with the new presses we have some exciting projects on the horizon, so please stay tuned and check back often. I'll be posting up projects that we feel are cool and deserve to be shown off, as well as new specials as they are released.
Don't forget to find us on Facebook as well!
